The development of a leading company

Roland DG was founded as a subsidiary company of Roland Corporation in Osaka (Japan) on May 1st 1981. Initially, the company functioned as a manufacturer of computerized music peripherals. One year after the foundation, Roland DG Corporation introduced its first pen plotter, the DXY-100. The second achievement dates from 1988 when the company released its first cutting plotter. This PNC-1000 introduced Roland DG Corporation permanently into the sign market.
 

Big successes

Soon after, Roland DG became very successful with its unique integrated printers/cutters. This licensed technology caused a revolution in the sign market. Until today, Roland DG is market leader for combined printing and cutting.

In 2000, Roland DG Corporation was granted an ISO certification and became a stock-listed company. Since 2002, the company is listed on the Tokio Stock Exchange first selection.

Three years later, Roland DG introduced the ECO-SOL inks. This was the industry's first solvent ink formulated to be gentle for both users and the environment. The same year, the company released the VersaCAMM SP-300 integrated printer/cutter, which set the industry standard for price and performance. This machine and its successors became Roland DG's best-selling products.
 

World first

Roland DG brought the world's first UV printer/cutter on the market in 2008. The revolutionary VersaUV LEC-300 is praised in various markets for its capacity to print texture and white on media that could not (or not good) be printed before.

Roland DG again had a scoop in 2009. The company launched the world's first inkjet printer/cutter with metallic silver ink. This 54" (1.37m) wide machine also uses CMYK and white.

In 2010, Roland DG released a series of machines that can be used with metallic and white ink: the VS family. The VS is available in widths from 76cm up to 163cm.

Roland DG had another scoop in 2011. The company introduced the world's first desktop printer/cutter with metallic ink. The BN-20 is 52cm wide and fits perfectly in every office environment. Moreover, Roland DG introduced the LEF-12. This is a desktop UV printer that prints directly on objects up to 10cm high.
 

Versatile specialisation

The first milling machine was launched in 1986, and one year later the first engraving machine followed. After years of development work, Roland DG introduced a milling machine for jewellery designers and goldsmiths. In 2010 the first modelling machine geared to the specific needs and requirements of dental laboratories followed. Today, Roland DG offers a series of affordable, compact and easy to use machines for the production of dental prostheses (the DWX series). After three years of activity in this sector, Roland DG could already boast of an installation base of 1000 machines.

  • 2009: Introduction of the first inkjet printer/cutter with metallic silver ink, the XC-540MT.
  • 2010: Release of the VS family of printers/cutters with metallic and white ink. Launch of the first dental milling machine, the DWX-30.
  • 2011: Launch of the VersaSTUDIO BN-20, the VersaUV LEF-12 and the VersaUV LEJ-640. Introduction of Eco-UVS stretchable ink.
  • 2012: Introduction of the new flagship model, the SOLJET Pro 4 XR-640 printer/cutter.
  • 2013: Introduction of Roland DG’s fastest printer yet, the XF-640, and of the world's most compact dental milling machines, the DWX-4.
